I am looking for any recommendations for companies offering short and long term disability insurace and what kind of disability insurance I would need. I am 24 married with no kids at the moment. My job is very low-risk and does not offer disability.

I loathe calling insurance companies for quotes. Does anyone know how much Short term disability through Aflac would cost (looking for rough figure here)

My premiums keep going up on my regular medical insurance and I'm weighing dropping my supplemental insurances. Parents won't cooperate with buying insurance, but push come to shove, if they need it, me and my brothers will be the ones taking care of them.

My employer's open enrollment apparently does not include their short term disability insurance (which employees pay 100% of premium.) They said since I declined it 2 1/2 years ago when I started I will never be eligible. My friend in the insurance business says this is FALSE.

I am 27 and was told that I could opt. out of social security, and could get a long term disability insurance alot cheaper. If I did this I woul dump the rest in my 401k, which will add up to around 400 a month.

I am 59 but diabetic. I think I run an above average chance of needing long-term care in the future. I do not want to exhaust all my savings and home to pay for nursing home care.

If you already have a pre-existing condition (a disability), most insurance companies don't seem to allow you to get short or long term disability insurance. Are there any companies that will allow you to get short or long term disability anyway, with the exclusion that if you become disabled due to your disability it won't cover it, but if you become disabled some other way (like an accident or something) then you would be covered? I know they call these "riders" but can't find a company willing to do this.

Looking for a company that will. Anyone know of any?

I'm thoroughly confused as usual. But, if you have the option to get both short and long term disability insurance why would you? Does the short term cover things the long term doesn't? Doesn't long term cover the short term period as well anyway? Or do you have to have both to be covered in the immediate future and long term??? Why does everything have to be so complicated why cant there just be one kind of disability insurance its soo annoying....Which one would you get or would you get both???? arrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggggggggggg. I'm only 28 so don't know if thats a factor, in relatively good health...but in a profession that can be dangerous. Mental health field, direct care. What about individual policies, should I consider paying outside of the company if they dont offer both of these.....

I pay for my mohter's housing and other living expenses, definitely more than half of her expenses. She is 62 and currently has social security benefits. She also get about $9000 per year from her long term disability insurance she had with her old employer, a goverment agency. Can I claim her as my dependent?

My friend has a term life insurance policy that is less than 2 years old. She entered the hospital recently for a newly diagnosed bipolar disorder and had admitted to thoughts of suicide. Within 2 months of her stay and diagnosis, her term life insurance policy was canceled by the insurance company for reasons of risk. Can they legally do this? I read the policy, but am unclear whether they have the right to do this. Thanks.
