1 out of 5 stars Save your money   December 5, 2008

This was definitely one of my more disappointing purchases. As noted in other reviews, this is nothing more than a software manual that is basically useless unless you want to want to spend big bucks on the associated software programs. One of the programs on the DVD, ESO, doesn't even work for me and my disappointment has left me with a lack of desire to expend the effort to find out why.br /br /The most disappointing part for me is the lack of insight into the models. A high percent of the book is print screens from the software. The Biotechnology Manufacturing. Deal Structuring, and Investment Valuation sections in the book are a joke (a total of six pages expended on large complex models). Open the Excel files for the biotech models and get prepared to use your 30 day free trial walking through the cell formulas to figure out what is going on (expect the familiar #REF! and #NAME? cells to appear with no logical way to correct). Some of the Exotic Options examples in the book are nothing more than a simple copy of the Excel file with no explanation. The case studies I looked at on the DVD appear to be just copies of pages of other Dr. Mun books and provided the same limited value.br /br /If you own the software being pushed, enjoy the manual and good luck getting it to work. If you don't own the software and are looking for a book to help you develop and understand models, keep your good money. I looked at another of Dr. Mun's books and I would advise you to be careful and examine them fully to ensure they are not also software manuals.br /

1 out of 5 stars Disappointment   September 26, 2008

The only feeling I can express is disappointment. This book is nothing else than a simple and thin guide regarding software that you can only use for 30 days. If you are only interested in the software you can download the trial version directly from the website without spending money buying this book.br /

5 out of 5 stars The mother lode !!   May 22, 2008

No finance book or finance compilation ever published, attempts to do, what this book does successfully, which is to give practitioners the ability to learn thru real world example, using hands on techniques. This book is ambitious, that is for sure; and it hits a home run !! br /br /Dr Mun always sets a high standard for other finance writers, due to the clarity of his teaching, and this book is a treasure trove. Standing ovation !! Like every other book Dr Mun has written, first and foremost, this book empowers the reader. Well done !!br /br /

5 out of 5 stars Very Impressive!   May 22, 2008

Once again I am impressed with Dr. Mun's scope and ability to effectively communicate advanced analytic methodologies and models. Clearly, the interested parties in any of his books are those who desire to integrate analytics into strategic decision making and demand accurate valuations. After reading his two prior books - Real Options Analysis and Modeling Risk - it was clear to me that he has great command of finance, econometrics, statistics and their real world applications. This most recent book further expounds both the intensity and span of his ability to apply even more in-depth analytical methods and models with clarity. However, it seems almost unavoidable that he use his software to provide both proofs and visuals needed to demonstrate or this book would be, well, huge. The issue of utilizing the software he has developed seems not to be the issue from my perspective because if I thought I could do it better - then I have a free thirty day look and could then proceed to build an application on my own. However, he did raise the bar in favor purchasing the software simply because he has priced his software very low compared to the value one can capture.
