A good place to start January 9, 2009 I bought this book about 8 months ago to start studying for the boards. I very much recommend this book as a starting point for studtying. This was the first book I bought. The chapters are approximately 20-30 pages long and covers major topics in detail, but definately leaves out some other common topics. Don't buy this book if you are looking for alot of explaination some of it is rather vague. It is great for clinical signs and symptoms but definately lacks in alot of the lab findings and treatments sections. Questions at the begining of the book and CD are not extremely difficult but again a good place to start. CD allows you to taylor your studying. Overall highly recommended
Review: The NCCPA's recommended review guide. December 12, 2008 Overall, this review text has been worth the purchase. It provides a quick review on a majority of topics. However, in my opinion, it lacks in one catergory: 1) when discussing treatment for a particular diagnosis this book does not give specific examples, so I am having to spend precious time reviewing other study materials for specific meds. This book is supposed to be a COMPREHENSIVE REVIEW!!!
Must have for PANCE November 2, 2008 I used this book along with Van Rhee. Very too the point. I would have preferred that it came with some pictures or an atlas like Van Rhee. But for the money it is a must have. The CD was just OK.
A comprehensive review.... September 30, 2008 This is a great book. It has helped me on my end of rotation exams for my clinical rotations. I only wish the questions were separated into sections.
Maybe May 15, 2008 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
I started my review 3 months ahead of time, read the entire book and took the pretest and scored 71%. Somewhat concerned, I bought the two Appleton and Lang study guides and specifically focused on areas of the pretest I was weakest in. I passed the PANRE with a score of 637/700. If you are in a subspecialty and want a comprehensive review, get all three books. That's around $200. The one thing about this study guide that is useful is the pretest. It will tell you where you need to focus your attention and study time.
