Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
The "value chain" is a key to anticipating, mitigating and preventing losses from a virtually infinite number of risks. Most business executives are unaware or in total denial about these potential problems. Gary Lynch offers practical, dynamic solutions in this book. Based on his more than 30 years' experience, he describes the problem with clarity and offers specific, effective solutions. The book is brought to life with real-world case histories from Lynch's client base and his own experiences in a variety of organizations. The first half of the book describes the problems of risk exposure and encompasses the many stakeholders involved in risk (executives, employees, investors, vendors and suppliers) and demonstrates how risk is not an isolated phenomenon but rather a universally shared problem. In the second half of the book, Lynch demonstrates how each and every stakeholder can work together to define the risk universe, identify a shared risk paridigm, and develop effective solutions to mitigate losses. The book offers practical and proven advice on creating a risk-conscious culture from the Board of Directors down to the mail room clerk. Perhaps the most important aspect to this ground-breaking book is a frank disclosure of the vast expansion of risk we all face, due to the growth of the Internet and IT, internal threats and external rivalries throughout the world. Lynch shows how the changed world also changes how all organizations have to rethink their attitudes about potential losses in order to survive in the future.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars A whole new viewpoint   June 1, 2008

I've been a line positions most of my life and thought about risk in my area, but generally thought it was someone else's problem. Lynch's book smashed through my denial. With an easy to read style with great examples, Lynch demonstrates that "Risk Awareness" needs to be part of a company's culture. I am handing this book out and asking associates to begin asking a lot more "What if..." questions.

Lynch gets it right in this book. He takes a broad set of perspectives, experiences and best practices and pieces them together to create a one-of-a-kind mosaic that finally illuminates the real issues we are facing in the business world. He seems to have done his homework, but this is far from an academic-only exercise...it is reality based, practical and useful. Translates an enormous and challenging issue into digestible and actionable guidance. While no one can completely tackle this issue in 300 pages, this book will certainly help you understand where to start.
